FILM OPENING ANALYSIS:
SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD

Director:Edgar Wright

The first film analysis I selected to work on is the movie ‘Scott Pilgrim vs the world’ which opens with a prologue and introduces the leading characters with a narrative. The genres of this movie may be classified into action, comedy, and fantasy. They're introduced in (the credits) the Universal Pictures logo which is pixilated and the track delivered on is the 8-bit music which is related to an old-fashion classic video game. The universal writing then disappears and a pale blue display with a text—a font widely utilized in comic books—appears, at the same time as a voice-over narrates and then plays a dream sequence or a flashback music effect as it pushes the display away with a graphic match and a pull shot. The opening again reinforces the link to the fantasy style, as comic books are frequently focused on superheroes.

We see reverse shots and mid-shots being used to reveal extraordinary characters as they communicate inside the kitchen. Scott Pilgrim was first introduced with textual content behind his head introducing his name and age. The phrase ‘awesome’ was additionally displayed (it relates back to the concept of comic books and fantasy). He may be seen as an introvert and his appearance makes him younger than his age. He's wearing a skin tight shirt which shows he is confident and flirtatious, and while he's already dating a girl we can get that he must be flirtatious. Scott is shown in his 20s which means he's finding love, which takes us back to him dating a girl named Knives.

However, mise-en-scène is pretty uninteresting; The characters wear informal clothing and the interior of the house is quite messy and dull. This introduces the character's stereotypes; they may be in their 20s, that's usually the age most corresponded with immaturity/laziness. They play garage rock and video games. The diegetic sound inside the kitchen is of a person playing a video game in the background, actually used for the reason of influencing the environment of the surroundings.

The characters remain in the kitchen, while the door rings and synchronous sounds are played, and the phrases "ding-dong" are displayed on the screen in comic book font. We're introduced to a new character ‘Knives Chau’ as they have a conversation through Over-the-Shoulder Shots, she is wearing a green jumper, which presents a comparison to the dull house that belongs to Scott Pilgrim and his pals.

Knives's makeup is really light and something bright which shows she's

a teenager, and it even shows her innocence through it. All of the

above was provided with a trading card description on the screen

'Stephen stills' along with his age and "the talent" mentioned beside him

telling us how he might be the leader of the band. Similarly, as Kim

was introduced to knives, her age was mentioned along with

"the drummer" and her character being bold, confident and fierce

which tells us she's unconventional as most females are shown sweet,

polite and humble and Young Neil" lives here" all shown through

medium close-ups.

When Kim(the drummer) shouts “one, two, three, four” all of them begin singing, and phrases consisting of “yeah, yeah” are displayed on the screen, as shown earlier in the identical font we see with the doorbell encounter. In addition, lighting bolts that have been edited as a melody, generated from instruments, and a tracking pull shot us (such as knives) away from the band.

The titles for Universal Pictures and different production agencies roll onto the screen from the bottom in white writing and glow all over (flashing) just as the beat drops to the diegetic track being played.

Witnessing the room long shot with the band on one and knives at the alternative stop, the scene has a comparable vibe as a video game's in which gamers play instruments that link back to their gaming element. At the same time, the title ‘Scott pilgrim’ flashes up onto the screen in the identical style As the Universal Pictures titles and, a wipe pushes the scene off the display screen. The cast names then appear with photos of vivid shade, which cuts at a swift tempo. Where we see all this appearing as an animated scene with vivid colors and symbols on the screen, as the actor's names are displayed on it. The sound playing becomes non-diegetic and is now amplified.
