Voicing Our Narrative (Voiceover)

So this was a challenge (it WAS A CHALLENGE). This was the point at which we realised we didn’t have enough friends (quite literally).

The First Voiceover

So my friend Awab did the first voiceover. To keep it short and sweet, I didn’t like it the first time I heard it (I sound like Rogina George from Mean Girls) No, but on a serious note. The voiceover that awab sent was slow paced (in comparison to the others), which was a good thing because I asked him not to rush it. However, we did not use his voiceover because it lacked depth and emotion, which is something that our type of film opening does not want because we want to capture the attention of our audience, which we could not do by using his voiceover.

The Second Voiceover

So the second voiceover was done by Joji (who is not, sadly, the singer of the song “Die for you”)… The issue with this voiceover was a lack of confidence in the voice, as well as some of the words being mispronounced. Both of these elements would have made our film’s opening appear dull and unappealing. Overall, this voiceover was completely inappropriate for our film’s opening (I don’t seem to like anyone’s work at this point).

The Third Voiceover

Unfortunately, the adage “third time’s a charm” did not apply this time because even with the third voiceover, we received nothing but disappointment (we had lost faith in men at this point). Moosa provided the third voiceover (for the quality of the voiceover, we waited far too long). This voiceover appeared to be at 1.5x speed when it was not. Moosa was obviously in a hurry… This voiceover was the worst of the bunch because it felt forced and as if he just wanted to get it over with. This voiceover didn’t match the pace of our shots and gave our film opening a very disproportionate look. So, we ignored this voiceover in the same way that moosa ignored our reminder texts.

The Fourth Voiceover

Shahryar provided the fourth voiceover… This voiceover was a strong candidate for the film’s opening. This voiceover was also fast, but we could have slowed it down. Words were correctly pronounced, but his voice lacked depth. Furthermore, our final voiceover was better than this, so we did not select it in comparison to the final voiceover.

The Final Voiceover

This was the only female-voiced narration. This voiceover was higher quality and slower in pace. The pronunciation of words was also clear, and the voice had emotion and depth (though not as much as we would have liked, but it was adequate). This voiceover was performed by an RJ I knew personally. (I purposefully posted a shorter version of the voiceover in order to keep the final voiceover hidden until I reveal the final project.
